Artist Statement
My works usually begin with materials like paper and pencil; during digital composing, the computer and tablet are needed. I sometimes also work with other animation forms including cutout and puppet animation. Besides my personal experience, my art practice is deeply influenced by pop culture as well. My latest work, High Noon, is a clip that functions as a cutscene that connects two different environments. High Noon uses a lot of references to old Hollywood western movies. Beyond these references, the comic artist and animation producer Katsuhiro Otomo and his work inspires me a lot: his strong, symbolic visual style, detailed, sci-fi-related backgrounds and his delicate character portrayal are all criteria that I am working towards in my own work.
